This year marks the centenary of The Battle of Somme.
As part of the commemorations Imperial War Museums and members of the First World War Centenary Partnership are working together to show UNESCO listed film ‘The Battle of the Somme’ to audiences across the world.
Bolton Central Library will be taking part in this nationwide project and will be screening the film on Friday 1 July.
At the screening Chorley based WW1 historian and author, Steve Williams, will talk about ‘Bolton men on the Somme, 1 July 1916’. Hundreds of men from Bolton and the local area fought and died during the battle. Steve will present an illustrated talk about a few of the men who witnessed some of the worse carnage in the history of the British Army.
The free event will take place at 1pm at Bolton Central Library and Museum. No need to book.
